Hello, everyone, I am Rachelle Grimes and I am over the moon that Mama Life magazine has asked me to write a beauty column. It will be my pleasure to share my advice and knowledge to fellow ‘Mama’s’.
My Background
I have been a makeup artist for around 13 years and I believe my love for makeup started from my mum, the lady who for as long as I can remember never left her bedroom without wearing her liquid eyeliner and red lipstick. I learnt at a young age how important this ‘makeup stuff’ was to women.
As well as being a makeup artist I am also a proud mum to Oakley James Shakespeare, a son full of personality and character. Recently, after a romantic proposal in Paris, I am now engaged to my fiancé, my wonderful partner James.
My Makeup Journey
My journey as a makeup artist began working in department stores, starting with Biotherm and Clinique and then going onto my favourite brand Giorgio Armani. I worked for Giorgio Armani for 10 great years, starting as a retail artist and working up to a senior makeup artist. This gave me the opportunity to work backstage and amongst some very talented people, who have helped me
develop my skills as a makeup artist. My most memorable experiences have included working alongside Linda Cantello and being chosen to do Lilly Cole`s makeup at a charity event.
Becoming a freelance artist
I became a mum in 2012 and returned from my maternity leave wishing to combine my family life with my freelance wedding work. Not only did working freelance help me to spend time with my family, it confirmed my passion for working with brides and I soon discovered that I really achieved
so much more by making a bride feel confident.
Since then I have been working hard building my business. I am proud to say that I have a full diary and have met some unbelievable people, alongside sharing their most memorable moments.
I am now part of a high-end beauty team called Labou, whose location is based in a perfect farm setting, giving me the opportunity to perform my bridal trials, conduct lessons and party makeups in a wonderful luxurious setting. I have also partnered up with the amazing Issac Charles bridal house.
My recognition continues to grow with some great achievements including the best makeup artist for Staffordshire in 2016 and again in 2017.
However, being asked to write this column has been one of my proudest moments, sharing my knowledge and experiences to help women feel better about themselves is such a rewarding opportunity and one I am cherishing. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my journey, which I believe, has only just started.
